Growing Hindu Kush with SCROG
How to run a screen of green with a short, bushy Afghan landrace that already wants to grow sideways.
Hindu Kush is a squat, wide indica that responds well to SCROG, but not for the reasons Instagram growers claim. You're not 'unlocking hidden yield' — you're just forcing an already-bushy plant to fill a flat canopy so every bud site gets equal light. Done right, you get more even, denser colas and better light-use efficiency. Done wrong, you get a tangled mess with mold risk. SCROG is a light management tool, not magic.
What SCROG is
SCROG (Screen of Green) is a training method where a horizontal screen — usually netting with 5-10 cm squares — is placed above the plant. As the plant grows, you weave or tuck new shoots under and through the screen to force a flat, even canopy [1]. The goal is simple: get as many bud sites as possible into the top layer of light, where photosynthesis is most efficient, rather than letting one apical cola dominate and shade everything below [2].
SCROG is often confused with SOG (Sea of Green), which uses many small plants flowered early. SCROG uses fewer plants trained wider. It pairs with topping, LST (low-stress training), and defoliation.
Why SCROG suits Hindu Kush

When to start (and stop)
Install the screen before you need it. Most growers mount it 20-40 cm above the pot surface, then start training once plants have 4-6 nodes and are tall enough to reach the net.

- Flip to 12/12: when roughly 50-70% of the screen is filled. Hindu Kush's short stretch means it will fill the remaining space during the first 2-3 weeks of flower.

How to do it, step by step

- Flip to flower when the screen is ~60% filled.

Common mistakes
