Hand-rubbed charas is a real, centuries-old resin collection method still practiced in the Indian Himalayas, particularly Himachal Pradesh. Hand-rubbed charas is a form of hashish produced by rubbing the flowering tops of living cannabis plants between the palms of the hands. Resin from the trichomes adheres to the skin, is scraped off, and is worked into a soft, dark, malleable ball [1][2]. Unlike dry-sift or ice-water hash, charas is made from fresh, uncured plant material still rooted in the field.
How it's made
A worker walks through a flowering field and gently rubs mature buds between clean palms for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour per session. The sticky trichome resin transfers to the hands, mixed with small amounts of plant material, cuticle wax, and skin oils. Once a dark coating builds up, it is rubbed off the palms and pressed into a pea- to golf-ball-sized lump [1][3].
